We are Kaleb and Erin Rodgers of Action Farms. We are nestled in the Ozark hills of Vanzant, Missouri, and together, we have 40+ years of animal husbandry experience. We would love to introduce ourselves and give you a little insight on who we are and why we would love to help you find the kitten of your dreams.
Kaleb and I met in 2010 while he was managing a horse farm and I was working as a tech at our local vet clinic, and we were married in 2013. Kaleb always says he knew I was the girl for him when he texted me, the night after we met, and when he asked me what i was doing, I told him I was watching a rooster pecking at some dog food.
Kaleb grew up on a farm about 2 miles from our home and from the time he could walk he was packing home every kind of critter you could imagine. Kaleb's favorite animals though were cows and chickens. When he was little he would set up a table with his chicken books and magazines and you could pay him for information about them.😂 Kaleb also loved his milk cows and milked them every day with his dad. We have been so blessed to continue this farming legacy with our own son on the same dairy we now own and operate and have 200 of the best lookin' Jersey girls around ( that's what we tell them any way😉).
As a teen and young adult, Kaleb began working for the owner, Gwen, of Action Farms. He started mowing lawns and filling water tanks for her during summer break and after school when he turned 14. Eventually, Kaleb became the manager of Gwen's Foxtrotter and Angus operation. In her memory we now own and operate Action Farms as well.
As for me, I began volunteering for a vet clinic when I was 12. I volunteered every weekend and summer and eventually was hired on as an employee at 14 and eventually became full time. I worked at the vet clinic until I graduated nursing school in 2013. I went on to earn my masters in nursing education but I learned that no amount of education could fill the void of being on the farm every day. Now, we run our dairy, as well as 350 head of Angus/ Herford cross cattle, our cattery, and we even have some exotics like Idgy and Boomer my kangaroos that live in our yard and Mork and Mindy my Ring Tail Lemurs.
We couldn't do any of this without help from our Lord, our amazing team here at Action Farms, and our boss hog blue heeler Josie who has been here from day one.
We are so excited to be on this journey with you to find the perfect baby to add to your new family. We can't wait to meet you and welcome you in to our wild and crazy world.
Our Cattery is a State and USDA licensed facility. We are inspected Anually through USDA, and Bi-Anually through the State of Missouri. We have also been inspected by the American Humane Association and have exemplary records and reports from all entities. Our Cattery is also inspected by a DVM and a Veterinary Plan of Care is renewed and ammended yearly.
Every Cat receives an annual Cardiac, Wellness, Joint, and Breeding Soundness Exam to ensure everyone is happy and healthy. All breeding lines are DNA tested for over 32 known health issues within their breed and cleared before being selected for breeding. Before we decide to place any pair together for breeding we examine genetics and pedigrees and plan for each litter. We also examine each male and female before choosing to breed them to ensure they are both physically sound and have optimum body condition.
We vaccinate all adults and kittens for Rabies, Bordatella, rhinotracheitis (FVR) caused by feline herpesvirus-1, feline respiratory disease caused by feline calicivirus (FCV), feline panleukopenia (distemper) caused by feline parvovirus (FPV), and Chlamydia. We also ensure Cats are negative for FIV and Felv.
We use Monthly prevention against heartworm, earmites, fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites.
All kittens are wormed, starting at 2 weeks of age, and every other week until they are 8 weeks of age where they can receive monthly parasite prevention. We begin bathing kittens at 6 weeks of age with a ringworm preventative shampoo, and trim their nails around this age so they are use to basic grooming when they go home.
All pregnant mothers and their babies are raised in our nursery. Each mother has her own area that is away from other cats where she can feel safe to birth and raise her young. All surfaces are sanitized daily and all bedding is replaced and washed. We also assess mother and all babies every few hours to ensure the mother has enough milk and that all babies are nursing adequately and aren't in need of supplementation.
We also have the ability to provide emergency critical supportive care to our newborns with our oxygen concentrator and incubator in our nursery while we are waiting to arrive at the vets. We have a very close working relationship with our veterinarians and have them available 24/7 for any needs that should arise.
Our babies are adopted quickly, so reach out to reserve your furever friend or to ask any questions.
